The "Land of Art and History" addresses the themes of architecture, urban planning, heritage, and landscapes for all the municipalities of the Voironnais region. Its mission includes raising awareness among young people about their living environment, enabling these future citizens to be active and informed about the evolution of their surroundings.
In practice, the educational outreach coordinator proposes, co-develops, and coordinates projects; she works in classrooms and with teachers, accompanied by accredited guides and mediators, creative artists, and professionals in their respective fields (architects, landscape architects, geomatics specialists, etc.). She collaborates with the Ministry of Education, the Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs (DRAC), the Council of Architecture, Urbanism and Environment (CAUE), local municipalities, and all other local cultural organizations.
░ The educational approach
The Land of Art and History offers activities that invite young people to a sensitive and active approach to their living environment, in order to become aware of its historical and collective dimension.
The pillars of the educational approach of the Pays d'art et d'histoire are as follows:
– field observation, as a starting point for collective reflection and the involvement of everyone
– the analysis, using interpretive keys and reference points provided by the mediator to answer the child's questions
– experimentation, to make abstract or technical concepts specific to architecture accessible to everyone (space, volume and proportion, or even materials and construction methods…); educational tools adapted to each level are used and created
– creation, to allow the student to mobilize newly acquired knowledge and to present the activities carried out through various artistic means.
Finally, and in the interest of consistency with the educational project of each class, the head of educational action works closely with teachers from the inception and throughout the projects to adapt to their specificities, expectations and programs.
░ What forms of mediation?
Each year, the Pays d'art et d'histoire offers teachers the opportunity to participate in a thematic educational project that puts its different areas of work into perspective.
Developed in collaboration with district educational advisors, teachers, and other stakeholders (CAUE, natural park, cultural institutions, etc.), the project engages a class throughout the school year through a series of sessions. Based on a proposed theme, observation, analysis, experimentation, and creation are implemented by the facilitators, while simultaneously drawing upon and enriching learning from all subjects (history, geography, French, science, mathematics, visual arts, etc.). The class and its teacher actively participate in the project's content and provide ongoing support throughout the year. An artist typically guides the process.
Educational projects:
2017-2018: Landscape Laboratory
Echoing the Landscape Photography Observatory, the Pays d'art et d'histoire (Land of Art and History) is proposing a project centered on the concept of landscape, which is inherently multidisciplinary. The objective is to design, implement, and manage a digital resource that will allow students and teachers in the region to interpret the landscapes around them, regardless of their level, and in connection with the various subjects taught. This tool will be used and refined by successive classes in the years to come.
2016-2017: Revealers of Heritage (photographer Thierry Bazin)
2008-2010: Writing with Light (photographer-in-residence Eric Hurtado)
2008-2009: Look at your territory (photographers Francis Helgorsky, Anne-Marie Louvet, Maryvonne Arnaud)
2006-2007: Secrets Façade
Teachers can also directly contact the Pays d'art et d'histoire (Land of Art and History) for pre-designed programs. These programs engage the class for two consecutive days (approximately 10 hours), with various activities taking place on the school grounds and in the surrounding area. The content can be adapted from primary to secondary school levels, and aligned with the teacher's pedagogical objectives.
“Earth Architecture” course: students examine buildings from the perspective of materials and construction techniques (concept of architecture, reading buildings, scientific experiments, experimentation with techniques…)
“Heritage Today” course: students analyze their village in the manner of heritage inventory researchers (historical and landscape integration of the village, reading of archive plans, architectural and urban planning analysis on the ground…)
"Landscape and Urban Planning" course: (under construction, to be offered from the start of the next academic year)
“Photographing Architecture” program: students meet and work directly with a visiting photographer (discovering their work, creating an artistic proposal with the class to sharpen children's perception of their living environment through the medium of photography)
“Contemporary Architecture” course: students study an architectural or planning project from its inception to its implementation (historical configuration of the space, analysis of the architectural or planning project, evaluation of its result…)
The Pays d'art et d'histoire is also able to respond to specific requests from teachers (visiting a site, working around a new theme, etc.).
