About Us
Henri-Bernard Maugiron, a restorer at ARC-Nucléart, will present the human and technical adventure of conserving the ancient shipwreck off Arles. How do you save a 31-meter-long vessel from the water? How do you ensure its preservation?
At the end of 2010, the agreement was given to launch the project of underwater excavation, lifting, treatment, restoration and presentation to the public of an ancient shipwreck discovered at the bottom of the Rhône in front of the city of Arles.
How to successfully restore a giant puzzle?
How do you design a support for 8 tons?
How can such a large ship be accommodated in a museum that is too small?
In less than three years, all the resources of the ARC-Nucléart workshop in Grenoble were mobilized to meet such a challenge.
