By Jean-Pierre Moyne, a doctor of medieval history who participated in the excavations at Colletière. Before becoming a territory, Sermorens was a site of Voiron, occupied from the 1st century BC. A first villa was built during the time of Augustus.

At the end of the 3rd century, a second building took over and stood until at least the 9th century. Major works were carried out during the 5th century. During the Carolingian period, the villa became the capital of a county. In 858, an important meeting (a plaid) was held in the building.

Sermorens, as a county or pagus, appears regularly in documentation in the 10th and 11th centuries. At the end of the 11th century, a conflict arose between the Bishop of Grenoble and the Archbishop of Vienne, who claimed that Sermorens belonged to their respective dioceses. The matter was not settled until 1107 by Pope Paschal II. After a final mention in a bull of Callixtus II in 1121, the County of Sermorens no longer appears in documentation.
