Cycle d'initiation à la course d'orientation

Our coach Anne designed this program to be progressive.

The idea is to create a small group of initiates who will progress together from January to April, before setting off later in the year to discover the routes in the region.

The meeting time is set for 14:30 pm sharp at the Gorges du Bret parking lot for each date.

Here's what you can expect (the educational content can be adapted to the group's level):

Saturday, January 24: the basics
Objective: To become familiar with the equipment.
The program includes: Understanding the legend of a map, learning to orient your map in relation to North with a compass, making the link between the map and the terrain on marked paths.
The added bonus: It's the ideal session to break down apprehension. We walk a lot, we chat, we observe.

Sunday, March 1st: Choose your route
Objective: To step outside of one's comfort zone.
On the agenda: Now that you know where you are, you need to decide where to go. We'll work on "guidelines" (following a stream, an edge, a path). We'll start venturing off the beaten track to look for slightly more "adventurous" markers.

Saturday, March 28: Precision and relief
Objective: To refine reading skills.
The program includes: Focus on terrain. Understanding contour lines to avoid climbing a hill unnecessarily (your thighs will thank you). Precise compass aiming exercises to navigate an area without obvious landmarks.

Saturday, April 25: practical application
Objective: Autonomy and enjoyment.
On the agenda: A more playful session where you'll complete a short course independently or in a small group. It's the perfect opportunity to put everything you've learned into practice. No stressful timing, just the pleasure of reaching all the checkpoints!

This program is given as a guide and will be adapted according to the number and level of participants.
