This central work of the repertoire, first performed at the Comédie-Française in 1879, has not been staged there for twenty-five years. It is directed by Julie Duclos, who wishes to encompass all aspects of this masterpiece of Romanticism: moving from drama to comedy, from the concrete to the lyrical, without ever losing sight of the fact that it is a man's life that is at stake.
