Tense hyperrealism. Visible texture. A gaze that almost physically grips you. Dominique Gobel works with reclaimed pallets – wood that has borne, absorbed, and endured. He prepares them, smooths them, frames them. And on top of that, he paints.

Here, there is nothing decorative. Each portrait resides in this tension between the controlled surface and what still emerges from the wood. The gaze takes over. It asserts itself.
