Mimpi, or “dream” in Indonesian, is a musical performance based on the Balinese gamelan, Sekar Sandat. Four characters—musicians, actors, singers, and dancers—explore key and symbolic elements of gamelan music.
...and Balinese culture.
The gamelan, a traditional instrument characteristic of Indonesian music, is composed of several percussion elements: gongs, metallophones, and drums. It is considered a single instrument that can be played by several people.
The traditional musical pieces reflect a cosmogonic representation of the universe and constitute large, balanced, cyclical, and symmetrical sound mandalas. Between humor and poetry, contemporary and traditional dance, Mimpi transports the spectator into an atypical sound universe, inviting them to a true collective immersion in vibration.
