July 1950. One night, in a wagon-zak which takes him to the gulag, the English officer Eric Arvid Andersen speaks through a partition with a Russian student. He will keep a sound memory of a strange beauty, which Solzhenitsyn transcribed among thousands of testimonies of deportees in his Gulag Archipelago. What is the trace of sound in our memory? How to transcribe a sound memory?
Eléonore Lemaire composes, with her accomplices Johanne Saunier and Richard Dubelski, a form of musical theater where dramaturgy, dance and music contribute to the staging of the sound memory evoked by Solzhenitsyn. Beyond the implacable rhythm of the music on the train, a dialogue opens between the English repertoire and the Russian repertoire, from Dowland to Prokofiev.
