Discover the extraordinary instrument, the Gamelan, accompanied by an orchestra of students from Pays Voironnais and Grenoble.
For 10 years, an extraordinary instrument has been kept at the Voiron music conservatory: the Balinese gamelan Sekar Sandat. Made up of blade keyboards, bronze gongs and drums, it has a deep, dazzling sound that captivates the audience.
In close collaboration with the Grand Angle, the Voiron Jazz festival and the Voiron and Grenoble Conservatories, the Détours de Babel Festival has imagined an extraordinary and large-format project, to highlight this gamelan at the heart of a student orchestra: the LOV (the orchestra of the country of Voiron) increased for the occasion of students from Grenoble.
This year the orchestra brings together an ensemble of saxophones, trumpets, clarinets and horns whose rounded and powerful sounds will radiate the vibrations of the gamelan.
Roberto Negro, Nadia Ratsimandresy, Samar Abou Jaoude will be the composers of music that is joyful and full of life, sometimes improvised, inspired by the mosaics of rhythms and the vibrant texture specific to the gamelan.
To open this magnificent concert, a kecak (Balinese tradition choir) bringing together students and residents of Annecy, Voiron and Grenoble will take the audience in a flamboyant collective choreography.
