Le Lac de Paladru

Measuring 5km long, 1km wide, and covering 392 hectares, it is the 5th largest natural lake in France of glacial origin. Did you know that, in addition to giving the lake its beautiful turquoise color, the lacustrine chalk that covers its bottom is beneficial for the skin?

Shaped during the Ice Age, its shores were home to one of the first human communities in the Isère region around 2700 BC (the Neolithic village of Les Baigneurs). Later, knights from the year 1 settled on the Colletière site. The remains unearthed during numerous archaeological excavations are currently on display in the new Archaeological Museum of Lake Paladru (MALP) located in Paladru.

The site is also remarkable for its 7 protected natural areas, including the Grands Roseaux area located north of the lake, a privileged nesting site for birds (mallards, swans, coots or great crested grebes) and for the spawning of fish (carp, tench, etc.); these reedbeds remain inaccessible.
To discover the fauna and flora, take the greenway to reach the marsh path marked with 4 discovery stations.

At 36 meters deep, its temperature rises to 25°C in summer. It is fed by two tributaries, the Courbon stream and the Pin stream. At its southern end, the overflow is discharged through an outlet that forms the source of the Fure River. Water is released through surface sluice gates, combined with a spillway when the lake's water level exceeds zero, and by a deep-water extraction system (a siphon at -30 meters), which discharges into the Fure River 5 meters downstream from the sluice gates.

Four municipal beaches provide access to the lake: three are paid (Pin, Paladru and Montferrat beaches) and one is free (Chararvines beach).
Swimming is permitted ONLY on these supervised beaches. Animals are not allowed on the beaches.
Two relaxation areas, Le Bois d'Amour in Charavines and La Verronière in Montferrat, are freely accessible and equipped for picnics by the lake.
Important information: barbecues are prohibited in all areas of the Tour du Lac.

Lake “Bleu” has another unique feature besides its color: it is a private lake that promotes tranquility and family activities. It is also open to fishing and boating.
