Le col de la Charette

History, culture and heritage

At 960m, Baracuchet is the highest non-alpine peak in the Voiron region. Its name actually means "Summit of summits" in Gaulish.

Straddling the Valdaine and Saint-Nicolas de Macherin valleys, this route offers a unique escape into the heart of the Voironnais hills. A key point on the hike, the pass connects these two valleys off the beaten track.

Bordered on both sides by steep paths, one wonders about the very possibility of passing a cart over this pass! The loop then plunges into the forests of Mount Baracuchet before ending near the lovely Lake Saint-Sixte, whose surroundings invite contemplation and a break.
