Objectif Grande Sure
At 1,920m, the Grande Sure is undoubtedly the most visible peak in the western Chartreuse mountains. Its limestone silhouette irresistibly attracts the eye and the desire to one day reach its summit.
But its ascent, from the Voiron side, is well-earned with more than 1,500 m of elevation gain and a demanding route!
Starting from the three fountains, don't forget to fill your water bottle before tackling the steep and rugged path leading to the Jusson alpine pasture, which is a worthwhile destination in itself. In summer, the cows grazing peacefully in the area will welcome you to their little paradise. Then, with a pastoral touch, the trail invites you to descend into the Combe des Veaux valley before opening onto the wide-open spaces of the Hurtières plateau. A final climb will take you to the Col de la Sure pass, then to the summit cross where your last efforts will fade away before the breathtaking panorama.
The last major peak of the Western Alps before the plains, the Grande Sure offers an exceptional 360° view. To the west, the gaze sweeps across the Isère Valley, the cold plains, the Bugey region, and, on a clear day, as far as the Monts du Lyonnais. To the east, the entire Chartreuse mountain range unfolds, extending into the Belledonne range and, in the background, the elegant silhouette of Mont Blanc.
