The exhibition produced by the Lons-le-Saunier Museum takes us to the Jura more than 5000 years ago, to the shores of Lakes Chalain and Clairvaux. It immerses us in a pivotal period: the Neolithic (5 – 300 BC).
Presented in two chapters, the exhibition tells how women and men interact with the environment, and in what ways communities are structured and networked. It thus evokes the history of these Neolithic societies which laid the foundations of our modern ways of life.
Chapter 1: Taking ownership of the territory. [presented from April 2, 2024 to August 25, 2024]
Chapter 2: Building connections. [presented from September 14, 2024 to March 9, 2025]
The sites of Chalain and Clairvaux were the subject of excavations by a team led by Anne-Marie and Pierre Pétrequin for around forty years. These fragile and rare remains emerging from the waters of these exceptional sites make it possible to study this decisive period of Prehistory. Moreover, the objects from the Jura lakes and those found on the shores of Lake Paladru – on the Baigneurs site – echo each other. They allow you to recreate a particular way of life, at the water's edge.
